It's amazing how much can change in a year

It doesn't seem real how much my precious DAUGHTER has changed in the past year. She is growing into such an amazing CHRISTIAN young lady. I'm so proud of her, I feel completely BLESSED that our dear Lord chose me to be her mother, to be the one He entrusted to raise her. I pray each & every day that I will raise her according to His will, that I will always live in a way to bring Him GLORY & to always set the right example for her. I LOVE this child more than words could even begin to express. She is the most AMAZING child, BEAUTIFUL inside & out. She is truly My SUNSHINE. She brightens my life each & every day. She has filled my life with so much love & JOY. I am so THANKFUL for my precious daughter. She is growing up way to fast for this Momma, but I'm so thankful for the young lady she is becoming. I pray she always put's GOD 1st in her life, & always looks to HIM in every decision she makes in life. I know he has GREAT plans for her.

Disney on Ice... Princesses & Heroes

I'm so thankful that I was able to go with momma to take my sweet girls to see Disney on Ice. It was a great show. It was Grace's 1st time to see a Disney on Ice show, she loved it. I'm so thankful I was able to be there to see her precious little face fill with excitement, and such amazement during the show. At times she sat there with her little eyes getting wider & wider, totally glued to watching the show. She was so cute to watch. I have always loved watching a child experience something for the 1st time. I love seeing their face when learning or seeing something new.
.
It was a great show. We got to see Mickey, Minnie, Tinkerbell, Goofy, Ariel& Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid , Snow White, the Prince & the 7 dwarfs from Snow White, Aurora, Prince Philip, Maleficent, and the 3 fairy godmothers from Sleeping Beauty, Belle, her prince & Lumiere from Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, Jasmine, & the Genie from Aladdin, Tatiana from The Princess & the Frog, & so much more. We all loved it & really enjoyed it.

I did pretty good, until near the end. Near the end I had a pain shoot through my head that even frightened me it was so bad, dizziness, loss of balance & blurred vision also accompanied the pain. I'm so use to the severe headaches that normally they don't scare me. I have to admit this one caught me off guard it was so bad & it did scare me a little. But I was trying not to let it show too much, because I didn't want to scare everyone else. My sweet girl, knew something was wrong, and she was right there to help her momma get up when it got time to leave. God bless my sweet girl she helped me to the car & helped me try to keep from scaring momma & Grace. I do not know what I would do without my precious daughter. She told me yesterday while we were gone to the ER & when we went to get my MRI, "Mom, I know you better than anyone if  you need help filling out those papers or talking to the dr I can do it. Since we have pretty much been together 24/7 for the past 13 yrs.. ;) Love that sweet child.

My early morning ER visit & then off to get the MRI of my brain done!

Well we (Momma, Morris, Kaitlyn & I) started the day way to early. I woke up around 6am after an awful night. My head killed me most of yesterday. I woke up with it still killing me, along with my throat feeling like it was on fire. I tried to call my mom, but when I tried talking it felt like I had a huge ball of mucous or something stuck in my throat. Then I started gagging & could not stop. I felt like I couldn't breath. So like any "smart person" would do I reached back in my throat with my finger & was trying to pull out what was stuck. I couldn't get it to budge. When I pulled my finger out of my throat it was covered in blood. Then being the "smart person" I seem to be lately. I thought, oh no, it's a clot of blood stuck in my throat. So once again I'm determined to get it out.. My throat was killing me, I was gagging & I couldn't breath well. Nothing, nothing, nothing would get it to budge. At this time Kaitlyn gets up,I told her I couldn't talk. I have Kaitlyn to bring my a mirror. I look in the mirror seeing blood and the uvula (little dangley thing in the back of your throat) was so swollen. So then we are waking Morris up, calling my mom to come over. Kaitlyn is saying I'm calling 911. At this point we are convinced my throat was swelling, & I needed to go to the ER. I told Kaitlyn not to call 911, I knew Morris could get me there faster. So off to ER we go. Of course my dear husband and daughter both set off the metal detector. I have a bionic husband & daughter, his neck & her leg. Then after that I got signed in & they took me right on back. The doctor came in to look at my throat, which looks awful (dh & dd both were sick last week). Then we find out I had been reaching back trying to yank the uvula out of my throat & not mucous or a clot of blood. Yes, I felt really, really "smart".. Apparently , it was so swollen from my throat being so inflamed. I felt like such an idiot. However, I was glad to find out the rest of my throat was not trying to swell shut. In all my life, I've never had something like this to happen. I have no idea why it was so swollen & hurting so bad. But just a little advice to everyone. If you think something is stuck in your throat look or have someone else to look before you try to pull it out.. Because if it is attached to your body, it will not come out, and you will cause damage & bleeding. Anyway, lesson learned..

Thankfully the ER doctor was able to get me out in time for my MRI appt. So we got to leave the ER and head over to get my MRI done. Good thing I'm not claustrophobic because they now completely strap you down, put your head in this cradle thing with padding on each side of your head & then place this face mask thing completely over your face, so your head is completely trapped. Then you are shoved into this tiny tube thing where you stay for what seems like FOREVER, all while it sounds like they are drilling toward your head with a jackhammer. Let me tell you this is quite pleasant with a headache. :) Finally it comes to an end, Hallelujah!

I was so thankful that they had a radiologist there today to go over the results with us. So I didn't have to wait forever for them to get the results to my doctor, then wait for him to call (I'm sure he will be calling to let me know when & what is next on the agenda). The radiologist pulled up my MRI scan and showed us the tumor. We were glad they saw it,and now know the exact location.(since many times I've been told, they can be hard to see on the scans when they are located in the pituitary) He told us he probably would have missed it, but it was pushing against some nerve fibers. So when he saw that area was pushed to the side, he knew to focus in on that area & that is where he found it.So now we've seen that awful pesky tumor, that has been causing me so many problems for so many years. Now we pray that I can get the surgery, & start getting better.

Please continue to keep my family & I in your prayers as we continue on this journey. Thank you all for your prayers, we greatly appreciate each of them..

Following Others or Studying God's Word Yourself... Make the right decision

Do you follow what others tell you about God or do you study for yourself??

1 Kings Chapter 12 & 13:

In 1 Kings chapter 12 & 13,  we read about Jeroboam becoming king over all
Israel. He was afraid the kingdom would turn back to the house of David, if the people went up to the temple of the Lord at Jerusalem. He was afraid the heart of the people would turn back to Rehoboam kind of Judah. So Jeroboam took counsel & made two calves of gold & told the people they had went up to Jerusalem long enough. He said, in verse 28, “Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” He then set one of the golden calves in Bethel, and the other in Dan. He also made temples on high places. He then appointed a feast on the 15th day of the 8th month, he offered sacrifices on the altar, sacrificing to the calves that he made.

A Behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. While there he cried out against the altar, saying, “Behold, the altar shall be torn down, & the ashes that are on it shall be poured out.” When King Jeroboam heard this, he said, “Seize him.” The hand he stretched out dried up, & he could not draw it back to himself. The altar was also torn down, & the ashes poured out, as the prophet had told. The King then said to the prophet, “Entreat now the favor of the Lord your God, & pray for me,, that my hand may be restored.” The prophet did so, then the king’s hand was restored. After his hand was restored he told the prophet, “Come home with me, & refresh yourself & I will give you a reward. The prophet told him he was told by the Lord, “You shall neither eat bread, not drink water, nor return by the way that you came.” So he left going another way, & did not return the way he came.

Now there was an old prophet who was told about the traveling prophet & what had been done that day in Bethel. He asked which way he went when he left, then he asked his sons to saddle the donkey, & he went after him. When he found him, he said, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” The traveling prophet said, “I am.” The old prophet them asked him to come to his house & eat bread. He then told the old prophet that the Lord had told him not to eat bread, nor drink water there, nor to return the same way.

The old prophet then told him that he also was a prophet of the Lord, & that an
angel spoke to him by the word of the Lord, saying, “Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread & drink water.” But he lied to him. The traveling prophet took the old prophet at his word that the Lord had sent this word to him & so he went with the old prophet. While there he  ate & drank water.

While at the table the word of the Lord came saying, “Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord & have not kept the command that the Lord God commanded you, but have come back & have eaten bread, & drunk water in the place of which the Lord said to you, “Eat no bread & drink no water,” You body shall not come to the tombs of your fathers. After the prophet left while on the road he met a lion & was killed.

When word came to the old prophet, he went and got the body of the traveling prophet & laid his body in his own grave telling his sons “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.”

After reading 1 Kings 12 & 13, I was thinking, are we like the traveling prophet? Do we study God’s word  & follow what he tells each of us to do or what not to do for ourselves? Or do we like this traveling prophet take the word of others? Do we follow blindly the words of others as to what God’s word is instructing us to do? Do we take the time to dig deep into his word, to study to show ourselves approved unto God?

If we are not reading the Bible, diligently studying it and striving each day to grow in God’s word, so that we know what God wants from each of us. We also will miss out upon our death. We will miss out on God’s greatest gift the gift of eternal life in Heaven which is given to us by the sacrifice of his only begotten son. So I plead with you if you are not studying God’s word for yourself, if you are relying on others to “get you to Heaven”, make the decision today to stop taking others by their word as to what the Bible says, take time each day to study it for yourself. You and only you are in charge of where you will spend eternity.

The gift of Heaven is open to all who follow the word of God, we only need to:

Finding out I have Cushing's Disease & a brain tumor...

I have debated back & forth whether I wanted to share

this news with  everyone. I decided sharing = more prayers

So join me on my journey: Cushing's Disease/Pituitary Tumor

For the past 2 1/2 months I have been undergoing many, many test. As some of you reading this know that I stay sick all the time & have for years, but it has been getting progressively worse. After many, many test I found out I have Cushing's. Then they had to determine the cause. Well last week I got a call from the nurse. I have Cushing's Disease, due to a tumor in my brain on my pituitary. Thankfully most of them are usually benign, & that is what we are praying. Now I will get a MRI on Tuesday, November 26,2013, to find out the size. My doctor told me he will be sending me to a specialist at  UAB in Birmingham for surgery, if surgery is possible. I to ask each of you to pray for  my family & I during this time. My family, especially my mom, is having a hard time with this since finding out I have the kind cause by a brain tumor. I'm handling it better than my family, since I was preparing myself for this news due to the symptoms I have been having with my memory problems  & trouble functioning with even everyday things. So I've been preparing myself with lots of prayer & Bible study. I know God is in control. We just have to trust him, pray & leave it to him. Not to say I don't have my moments, I am human, but mostly I'm handling it pretty well.  My family I would appreciate your prayers for us  & the doctors. Thank you so much!

You may be asking, "What exactly is Cushing's Disease?"

Cushing’s disease is a condition in which the pituitary gland releases too much adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). The pituitary gland is an organ of the endocrine system.
Cushing's disease is a form of Cushing syndrome.

Causes:

Cushing's disease is caused by a tumor of the pituitary gland. This gland is located at the base of the brain. People with Cushing's disease have too much ACTH. ACTH stimulates the production and release of cortisol, a stress hormone. Too much ACTH means too much cortisol. Cortisol is normally released during stressful situations. It controls the body's use of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins and also helps reduce the immune system's response to swelling (inflammation).

Symptoms:

  • Headaches, Migraines
  • Vision/Eye problems
  • Increased thirst and urination
  • Hypertension,
  • Diabetes
  • Heart problems
  • Infections, increased risk due to impaired immune defense mechanisms
  • Kidney stones
  • Impaired Cognitive Abilities (problems with memory, trouble remembering things that happened, trouble recalling and saying words, trouble describing things)
  • Mental changes, such as depression, anxiety, and/or changes in behavior
  • Psychosis
  • Fatigue/Insomnia
  • Backache, which occurs with even routine activities
  • joint pain and/or tenderness
  • Bone pain and/or tenderness
  • Muscle pain, muscle weakness and/or tenderness
  • Bone wasting leading to osteoporosis (possibly leading to fractures)
  •  Compression fractures
  • Collection of fat between the shoulders (buffalo hump)
  • Thinning of the bones, which can lead to rib and spine fractures
  • Upper body obesity (above the waist) and thin arms and legs
  • Round, red, full face (moon face)
  • Acne or skin infections
  • Purple marks, striae, on parts of the skin
  • Thin skin with easy bruising, drying
  • Excessive sweating
  • Excess hair growth on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, and thighs
  • Thinning hair (like male pattern baldness)
  • Menstrual cycle that becomes irregular or stops

Exams and Tests:

Tests are done to confirm there is too much cortisol in the body, then to determine the cause.

These tests confirm too much cortisol:
  • 24-hour urine cortisol (done)
  • Dexamethasone suppression test (low dose) (done)
These tests determine cause:
  • Blood ACTH level  (done)
  • Brain MRI (scheduled for 11/26/13) - to determine size & exact location on the pituitary
  • Corticotropin-releasing hormone test, which acts on the pituitary gland to cause the release of ACTH  (done)
  • Dexamethasone suppression test (high dose)  (done)
  • Petrosal sinus sampling - measures ACTH levels in the veins that drain the pituitary gland (really praying we don't have to do this test... ouch!)

Treatment:

Treatment involves surgery to remove the pituitary tumor, if possible. After surgery, the pituitary may slowly start to work again and return to normal. During the recovery process, you may need cortisol replacement treatments. Radiation treatment of the pituitary gland may also be used. If the tumor does not respond to surgery or radiation, you may get medications to stop your body from making cortisol. If these treatments are not successful, the adrenal glands may need to be removed to stop the high levels of cortisol from being produced.

Transsphenoidal surgery is the first line treatment of Cushing’s disease. It allows remission in 60-90% of microadenomas, and 50-70% of macroadenomas, depending on local invasion and the experience of the neurosurgeon. Remission should be defined by normal ACTH and cortisol circadian rhythms, and suppressed cortisol value after overnight/low dose dexamethasone suppression test.
The risk of late recurrence after presumably curative surgery is estimated to be close to 25%. Several criteria have been reported as predictive factors for long-term remission: low immediate post-surgical early morning cortisol/ACTH levels, cortisol suppression after 1 mg overnight dexamethasone suppression test, lack of cortisol/ACTH response to desmopressin or coupled dexamethasone desmopressin test. However, it is still difficult to predict which patients are at greater risk of recurrence, as some patients uncured immediately after surgery, might however present delayed remission. As a consequence, and due to the high risk of recurrence, it seems difficult to talk about “cure” in patients with surgically treated Cushing’s disease; the term “remission” seems more appropriate. In other words, even long-term remission after surgery should lead to at least a prolonged clinical close follow-up. In case of immediate surgical failure or late recurrence, several therapeutic modalities are available: second pituitary surgery, medical treatments, radiation techniques, or bilateral adrenalectomy. Only some of these treatments (surgery, and radiation techniques after a prolonged period) can lead to long-term remission.

Outlook (Prognosis):

If untreated, Cushing's disease can cause severe illness, even death. Removal of the tumor may lead to full remission, but the tumor can grow back.
